Fostering Information

Fostering Guidelines

Lucky Day Animal Rescue of Colorado is an all foster home organization, so we need your help to keep on saving as many lives! There are many obvious benefits to foster homes – the animals are happier, we get a chance to know them better, teach them a few things, and make an even better match to ensure their lifelong happiness. What could be more rewarding?

  • You’ll need a fenced yard or another arrangement to keep the animal safe and happy while staying with you.
  • Lucky Day will pay for any medical expenses and can also provide food if needed.
  • Ideally, you are willing to help do some training, although we get many animals that are fully trained and fit right into your lifestyle.
  • We do require that you make the animal available for adoption days or to meet with potential adopters on a timely basis.

As a foster group, we need to find homes that can keep the animal until it finds a permanent home. However, if it is not working out or if you have travel plans, we’ll do everything we can to work around your needs.

We work to find the animal an appropriate home as quickly as possible. We list them in the newspaper, online, and hold adoption days to do so. It can take anywhere from a few days to a few months, but on average, about 4 weeks.

What happens if I get attached?

This does happen and certainly, foster homes have adopted animals. However, many experienced fosters also realize that as hard as it is sometimes to give one up, the next one is almost always equally great and you can save far more lives that way.

If you can’t adopt right now, travel often or just have room in your heart and house for more animals on occasion? This could be the perfect way for you to help save a life.
